Off the Floor Pittsburgh is a local Christian volunteer ministry which provides basic used
furniture items such as beds, dressers, tables, and chairs to disadvantaged families who lack
these items.
Our mission is to strengthen families and to reduce the pain and indignity of extreme poverty
in the greater Pittsburgh region by recycling used furniture in good condition and delivering it
free of charge to families in deepest need.
We are searching for a part-time executive director who is a visionary willing to help OTFP to
stay focused on our mission while helping to engage in a dynamic strategic planning process
that will allow for stronger partnerships, increased fundraising opportunities and long term
viability for this organization.
We need an individual who can:
• Analyze & evaluate current operations to improve effectiveness. This
includes being available and responsive to issues and concerns as they
arise.
• Engage and energize volunteers
• Communicate effectively with the board and referral organizations
• Be an advocate for OFTP to the local community and agencies
• Write and submit proposals for monetary support
• Build and write a case for annual support
• Contribute to bi-annual fundraisers; Valentine’s Day dinner and Holiday
Luncheon and Silent Auction

Position Description: Executive Director
Purpose: To implement the policies set by the Board of Directors of Off the Floor Pittsburgh
and to manage the staff, volunteer, space, financial and all other resources of the
organization to ensure that annual goals and objectives are met. Guidance and direction is
provided by the Chairman of the Board and by the Board.
Hours: This position is 25 hours per week.
This is an Independent Contractor position. Salary is negotiable. Probationary period is 6
months.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide leadership to the Board of Directors with regard to goals, priorities,
staff development, strategic direction and financial sustainability. Keep the
Board fully informed on the condition of the organization and all important
factors influencing it.
• Execute the long-range strategy set by the Board.
• Promote the mission of Off the Floor Pittsburgh and ensures consistent
and timely progress toward achieving it.
• Responsible for staying within the budget of the organization as well as
assisting with the development of the annual budget and regular financial
reports to the Board of Directors as needed.
• Responsible for immediate direction of the staff in the development,
implementation of short and long-range plans and activities, and problem
solving.
• Promote active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the
organization’s work.
• Responsible for liaison with other organizations, such as local churches,
social service referral agencies and foundations.
• Responsible for administration of overall operation of the organization,
including: reviewing and evaluating the results of program activities,
ensuring that financial obligations are being fulfilled and that fund raising
efforts are adequate for the needs of the organization, allocating resources
for greater program effectiveness and efficiency; developing organization
and administrative policies and program objectives for Board
consideration.
• Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with
federal, state and local regulations.
Required Qualifications:
• A clear understanding and endorsement of the mission of OFP.
• Educational training and/or experience in the social service field, including three
years of management level experience in a non-profit organization with fundraising
responsibility.
• At least three years of supervisory experience of paid staff, including interviewing,
recommendation for hiring, training employees, assigning and directing of work;
appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing
complaints and resolving problems.
• Effective oral and written communication skills including experience writing business
correspondence, procedure manuals and reports as well as public speaking to large
and small groups. Access to and experience with personal computers and
experience with at least email, internet, word processing and Microsoft Excel
software.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
and to exhibit independent judgment in the development, implementation and
evaluation of plans, procedures and policies.
• Ability to be bonded.
