2011 Off the Floor Pittsburgh Operations Statistics

From August, 2004 through Dec. 2011, Off the Floor Pittsburgh has made furniture deliveries to a total of 657 families and individuals in 64 zip codes in and around Allegheny County.  1,290 children have been helped.  Hundreds of  individuals have volunteered time in support of OFP, serving on the Board, returning phone calls, writing grant proposals, organizing the warehouse space, moving furniture, fundraising, making presentations to local churches, sending out tax letters, and many other activities.

In 2011 alone, 112 individuals and families and a total of 191 children were served. 72% of the recipients were African American.  84% of the recipients had children living in the home.  More than half of the families were headed by single parents.  All but three of the 2011 recipients were referred by one of the social service agencies that partner with OFP to identify families in need. This year deliveries were made in 37 different zip codes, including five areas new to OFP:  Aliquippa, South Park, Glassport, Finleyville, and Oakland.

Furniture delivered in 2011 included 166 beds (including 71 twin beds), 79 sofas and loveseats, and 67 sets of tables and chairs. These deliveries were made possible by almost 200 private donors as well as large contributions of furniture from Courtyard by Marriott, Family House – Shadyside, Original Mattress Factory, Ronald McDonald House, Shadyside Inn, Ward Homes, and Duquesne University.

Congratulations to Bob Myers, Executive Director, and Mary Ann Miklos, Pick up and Delivery Coordinator, for determination and motivation in making 2011 such a successful year.  Thanks also go to the team of phone volunteers and to the volunteer teams of Calvary Episcopal Church, Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Mt. Lebanon U.P. Church, Shadyside Presbyterian Church, St. Andrews Episcopal Church, and Wallace Memorial Church.

Financial support comes from the Pittsburgh Presbytery, Shadyside Presbyterian Church, Calvary Church Women, Eastminster Presbyterian Church, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, the Leonard A. and Mary Jane Schafer Foundation, and the Everett D. & Geneva V. Sugarbaker Foundation.

Off the Floor Pittsburgh recipients are selected without regard to age, race, religion or sex.  The primary criteria for selection are the presence of children living in the home and the extent of furniture needs.  To be considered, families and individuals must be referred by one of the social service agencies that partner with OFP for this purpose.
